Selfie With Daughter Campaign Update: April 11, 2026, Bibipur Village, Jind, Haryana, India
The Selfie With Daughter Campaign is a global grassroots movement born from the heart of rural India — a simple yet powerful idea that a photograph can change the world. Founded in 2015 by Sunil Jaglan, a village sarpanch from Bibipur, Jind district, Haryana, we started with one selfie and a dream: that every daughter deserves to be celebrated.
What began as a local initiative to combat female foeticide and gender discrimination has grown into an international movement spanning more than 80 countries, with over 2 million selfies shared by families across the globe.
In June 2015, Sunil Jaglan took a selfie with his two daughters and posted it on Facebook with the hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter. His village of Bibipur had a child sex ratio of just 832 girls per 1,000 boys — a reflection of the deep-rooted son preference that plagued not just Haryana, but much of India.
Within days, hundreds of families joined in. Within weeks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the Selfie With Daughter Campaign on his national radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, calling it "a silent revolution." In 2017, President Pranab Mukherjee launched our official mobile app at Rashtrapati Bhavan — and the movement truly went global.
We exist to:
Pride — Every daughter deserves to be celebrated openly and joyfully.
Inclusion — Our movement welcomes families from every background, culture, and country.
Action — We believe awareness must lead to real, lasting change in communities.
Empowerment — We champion girls' rights to education, health, safety, and opportunity.
Every selfie tells a story. Every share sends a message. By posting your photo with your daughter using #SelfieWithDaughter, you become part of a global community standing up for gender equality — one photograph at a time. The Selfie With Daughter Campaign relies on everyday heroes like you.
International Selfie With Daughter Day is observed every year on 9 June.
